For this off-site visit with students in the Red Room at the Frances Jacobson Early Childhood Center we're building on the unit that they are currently doing about "The Gingerbread Boy" story. In the presentation and discussion of the examples in this lesson it may be good to talk about where the people/animals shown are (outside, in winter), what they are doing, and what they look like, highlighting colors, shapes, numbers (counting when appropriate). Connections to students' own experiences with winter are great, and will be encouraged. In both the viewing/discussion of example images and the art activity, using prompts that have students move their hands and faces, explore different textures, and make sounds (like animal sounds) will help engage students with different learning styles/preferences.
