Tapestry fragment

Warp of linen; ground of a natural-colored linen fabric of looped weaving; design a fragment of a pendant with waving stem and alternate leaves of tapestry weaving of plum-colored wool. Design shows Roman influence.


Discovered by W. M. F. Petrie in the Greco-Egyptian cemetery of Hawara in the Fayûm in 1888. "The interments in this cemetery were from 400 B.C. to 150 A.D." This piece dates from 200 B.C. to 150 A.D." Amelia B. Edwards.
