Point lace cut work, punto tagliato or tela tagliata

This piece, although similar in design and execution to much of the Italian cut-work, is probably of Eastern origin, as it is made upon heavy cotton, instead of linen. The cotton is worked with the stitches called by the Italians punto quadra, punto riccio and punto reale.
