Piece of brocade

Red satin white stripes separated by narrower stripes of white and blue. Worn so as to show in places the yellow threads that run through the piece; on the wide red stripes is a scrolling design of yellow, on the narrower ones are butterflies and bars with leaves twining around them, also of yellow.


Acquired by the donor by exchange with the Pratt Institute of Brooklyn, N.Y.,From the Collection bought by them of Salvadore & Son of Florence, Italy, in 1897.
