Lace fragment

An insignificant leaf and flower design on a ground of round Valencienne mesh. It is coarser than Valencienne lace usually is. Stained and worn.

Provenance

Mrs. John Marshall Collection. Note by Mrs. Hailstone:- "Lace from a cap worn by the beautiful Duchess of Argyle (Miss Gunning) who married in 1759 and died in 1790.
