Han woman's domestic semi-formal coat (ao) with design of peonies and butterflies in resist-dye on a gray silk crepe ground and trimmed with embroidered silk and yellow silk ribbon; round gold metal button and blue silk loop side closure.

Provenance

Purchased by donor in Beijing about 1889; gift of Mrs. H. M. von Brandt of Wiesbaden, Germany, wife of the late German minister, to the MFA on October 6, 1896.
