Turkish towel, fine linen plain weave, embroidered with fruit and leaves in metallic and polychrome silk thread. Condition: embroidery intact; several brown food stains; small holes along sides; export stamp.


Purchased about 1922 by the mother of Dr. Zekiye Suleyman Eglar in Tiflis, Georgian Republic, where she lived; inherited by Dr. Eglar from her mother's estate prior to World War II and brought to the USA; inherited in 1983 from Dr. Eglar's estate by her nephew, Fazal Chowdhry, the donor.
