Saltillo sarape

Start collecting

Sarape made two panels, sewn together. Centermost pink diamond, blue/white concentric diamond medallion of light/dark blue zig-zag stripes on white background. Warp ends knotted as fringe. Wool weft, cotton warp. Condition: some areas of reweaving, holes, stains; green tape selvedges.

Collected in 1870 by Annie Lawrence Rotch (Mrs. Horatio Lamb) in Mexico; Aimee and Rosamond Lamb; gift to the MFA, February 20, 1980
