Noh costume (nuihaku)

Noh theater robe (nuihaku) with white silk satin ground and overall design of boats, ropes and wave medallions in blue, black, purple silk embroidery and metallic gold-wrapped thread couching; lined with purple plain-weave silk. Made from a robe (kosode) from the latter half of the 18th century.
