Uncut length of acid yellow silk satin patterned with red and pink twill wefts in two matching neoclassical designs of a central floral medallion flanked by scrolling foliate and laurel branches. Probably intended for a settee cover.
Donor's great-grandfather, Daniel Sears, purchased this textile while on his honeymoon in Paris between 1804 and 1806. Daniel Sears later resided at 42 Beacon Street, now the site of the Somerset Club, which was one of the first houses in Boston decorated in the French Empire style.
