Sample of cotton batik with design of diagonal bands of broken dagger pattern (parang variation) in brown and natural ecru alternating with diagonal bands of floral motifs in dark blue, brown and natural ecru.

Provenance

Purchased through Dr. Ananda K. Coomaraswamy from the private collection of the Javanese prince Ario Kusumodiningrat, an elder brother of the then reigning sultan in Surakarta (Solo); April 7, 1921.
