Start collecting

Sample of cotton batik with design of irregularly painted ground with light and dark neutral orange and black in a design of small spots or scales. On this are medallions printed alternately with a dark blue and a light neutral ground.


Purchased through Dr. Ananda K. Coomaraswamy for the MFA from the private collection of the Javanese prince Ario Kusumodiningrat, an elder brother of the then reigning sultan in Surakarta (Solo); April 7, 1921
