Start collecting

Sample of cotton batik with design of light neutral orange ground across which run diagonal bands of dark blue detailed with neutral orange, black and white. From this grow irregular pointed leaves printed with neutral orange and dark blue.

Provenance

Purchased through Dr. Ananda K. Coomaraswamy for the MFA from the private collection of the Javanese prince Ario Kusumodiningrat, an elder brother of the then reigning sultan in Surakarta (Solo); April 7, 1921
