Sample of cotton batik with design of meandering bands bound together by rosettes, the ground is powdered with large and small forms from which grow branches with leaves, printed with neutral orange and light neutral orange on a dark blue ground.

Provenance

Purchased through Dr. Ananda K. Coomaraswamy for the MFA from the private collection of the Javanese prince Ario Kusumodiningrat, an elder brother of the then reigning sultan in Surakarta (Solo); April 21, 1921
