Sample of cotton batik with design of dark blue ground on which strange forms including birds and animals are powdered in a very irregular manner, printed with light and dark neutral orange and white.

Purchased through Dr. Ananda K.Coomaraswamy for the MFA from the private collection of the Javanese prince Ario Kusumodiningrat, an elder brother of the then reigning sultan in Surakarta (Solo); April 21, 1921
