Sample of cotton batik with design of dark blue ground closely covered with a simple design printed with neutral orange, arranged on diagonal lines to give the effect of an interlacing lattice, there are rosettes of small white dots in the spaces between.

Provenance

Purchased through Dr. Ananda K. Coomaraswamy for the MFA from the private collection of the Javanese prince Ario Kusumodiningrat, an elder brother of the then reihning sultan in Surakarta (Solo); April 21, 1921
