Realism vs. Abstraction: Which Feels More Real? (Portraits)

Expanding upon issues discussed in Part 1: Abstracted Landscape (although prior attendance is not necessary for this session), we will think about different approaches for conveying the personality of a subject. Is precision and realism in classical painting more evocative than a lumpy Picasso sculpture or a splattery Jackson Pollock painting? We'll take a look at a variety of work from the museum's collection and see what kind of art really gets at the subject's character.
