Provenance

Given by the artist to Sir Joshua Reynolds (Lugt 2364), 1768; his first posthumous sale, London, Poggi, May 26 1794 and following days, in lot 904, 905, or 906. By 1928, Bernard Houthakker, Amsterdam. Koch collection, Holland. 1948, Schaeffer Gallery, New York; Forsyth Wickes (1876-1964, New York, Paris, Rhode Island), purchased 1948; his bequest to MFA, 1965.
