According to an inserted note, "this present book was taken from the Royal Library of the Escorial by King Joseph Bonaparte and was found among his baggage after the Battle of Vittoria by a British Officer and by him brought to England, in the possession of whose family it has remained ever since"; acquired in 1925 by William A. Sargent, Boston (1858-1936), by whom bequeathed to MFA, November 17, 1937.
