At left: 6th St. Brk. 4 x 5 Av. Center: 1699 On verso in graphite pencil in another hand: notes. These notes trace the history of the house, which was owned by a Mr. Johnson in 1690 and was the scene of crisisin the Battle of Long Islnad, Sept. 27, 1776. Built by Adrian Cortelyou 1790 when his brother Jaques bought Vecht house. Cortelyou (Vecht) house in background.
