Primary Source: Teaching Culture in East Asian Language Classes

Language is more than grammar, syntax, and vocabulary—it’s also the gateway to culture. But how do you teach culture effectively and engagingly to students of different ages? Through the use of visuals and VTS in the language classroom, we can help students develop their visual literacy and critical thining skills, while strengthening their language skills.  By exposing students to many different images, students will also be able to notice and wonder about the nuances of culture.
