Portraits-John Breen School /Artful Adventures

In this gallery tour and studio work, the kindergarteners will be exposed to a fashionable portrait by Sargent(1882) ,a colonial portraiture by Copley(1768), a life size impressionist portrait, and Picasso's "Portrait of a Woman." The students will be exposed to these varied styles while being asked to consider how color plays an importatnt part, realism vs abstract art, choices artists make when painting or drawing, and to be thinking of what they will include to create thier own work of art.

Questions to consider while observing these works:

·      What objects and symbols were included and why?

·      What clothes might this person have worn?

·      What facial expression and body language will show us how this person lived his/her daily life?

·      How do I place the facial features correctly and get the proportions right?
