Serpent Forveille

Upright-type serpent as designed by Forveille. Leather-covered fruitwood body with brass leadpipe, bocal, and keys. Three round keys mounted on pillars. Lyre-shaped music holder screwed to bell.

Before 1981, purchased at a Hi-Fi Shop on the Champs Elysées, Paris, by Peggy Stuart Coolidge (1913-1981), New York; 1981, by inheritance to her husband, Joseph R. Coolidge (1916-1999), New York; 1981, gift of Coolidge to the MFA. (Accession Date: December 9, 1981)
