Great Cities of the World!

We'll take a hike through the museum to explore different great cities and places. Unlike our usual routine, I'll refrain from telling the group which part of the world our featured galleries are from before we get there.

Can we tell just from a single image in a painting where a place might be? What sort of visual signs or cues do artists use to convey their ideas to the viewer? What parts of a landscape can clue us in to what part of the world we might be looking at? We'll look at a variety of images and objects from around the world and see if, using these guidelines, we can determine the similarities and contrasts between them.
