We then looked at the next group to keep artists in business-- royalty. In this portrait we discussed how everything the artist did or included acted as a symbol. This was a portrait of the future King. He's shown in wealthy costume, and higher in the composition to show his importance. The rattle and apple are common child playthings but also act as symbols of the future king-- the rattle resemble a sceptor and the apple the royal orb.
