On the beginning of our tour we noticed that art was created around the theme of religion. We found images of crosses, angel wings, and hands in prayer.
This is a portrait that I had wanted to show you-- but the museum recently moved because it's a part of their special exhibit on the artist...
We discovered that a portraits use of clothing, expression, and props can give us information about the time period, as well as the artist.
This portrait is a good example of this idea. By his clothes you can notice that he is a very religious man. You can also see his spirituality in his expression. We can also tell he is a scholar since he was actually caught in the act of reading. (his finger is holding his place in the book)
