The false door was an important piece of funerary equipment in Ancient Egypt. it provided the focal place where the living could bring offerings to the deceased. Always set into tomb or chapel walls looking east, the false door contained a series of niches and inscriptions. Offerings of bread, beer, oxen, fowl, wine, milk, cakes, and other types of produce were placed on an offering table before the false door, there to be magically consumed by the spirit of the deceased.
