The Female Representation in American Art

This gallery utilizes images of females being represented by American artists. By juxtaposing images depicting women in a similar manner, students are expected to compare and contrast the representation of the female figure and what that might say about their role in society. The purpose of this gallery is not to call for gender equality or give a solid representation of females in America, if not to simply encourage the analysis of these images to form a subjective opinion of the female depiction in American art through the use of the elements in the images and some creative thinking.
