Exploring Chinese Landscapes

The genre of Chinese landscape painting has been evolving over centuries and has become a quintessential part of China's artistic tradition. Through this gallery, students will explore the themes and symbols present in a range of Chinese landscapes as well as examine the significance of elements such as color, composition and format. Ultimately, students will discover that Chinese landscape painters were not focused on depicting their surroundings exactly as they saw them, rather they painted landscapes to represent the human connection with nature and imbued the idyllic scenes with their personal thoughts and feelings.
