Made for Baptist Noel, 4th Earl of Gainsborough (1694-1759). by descent within Gainsborough family until 1993; November, 10, 1993, sold by a "gentleman" at Christie's, London, lot 250, where most probably bought by Alan and Simone Hartman, New York, NY; 2001, gift of Alan and Simone Hartman. (Accession date: February 21, 2001)
