Vegetable Covered Dish

The shallow rectangular dish has rounded corners with an applied cast border of fluting and scallop shells. The stepped, domed cover, raised from sheet, has a band of gadrooning and a detachable cast loop handle rising from a foliate rosette.

Inscription

ARMORIALS: engraved on each side of cover and body, the arms and crest of Hurd.

Marks

On side of dish, maker's mark RH (Grimwade 2332)(repeated on underside of cover and handle); lion passant (repeated on underside of cover and handle); leopard's head crowned; date letter e (repeated on underside of cover); sovereign's head(repeated on handle);on handle, possibly maker's mark WS.
