Stand for Tureen 65.2175a-b. The oblong stand is decorated with a dark blue ground, a centerl quatrefoil cartouche painted with three birds in an abbreviated landscape, and four shaped cartouches with molded scroll border

Provenance

By 1997, with a descendant of the 2nd Viscount Bearsted MC [see note 1]; February 24, 1997, sold at Christie's, London, lot 52, and bought by E & H Manners, London, for the MFA [see note 2]. (Accession date: March 26,1997) NOTES: [1] Walter Samuel, 2nd Viscount Bearsted (Chairman of Shell 1921-46), housed much of his collection of paintings, tapestries, French porcelain, Chelsea figures and 18th century furniture at Upton House, near Banbury, England. [2] This Tureen Stand is possibly original to a Covered Tureen in the MFA collection (Acc. No. 65.2175).
