Sauceboat

Start collecting

Each sauceboat has a low oval body, raised from sheet, a cut, shaped rim, and a broad curved pouring lip. The body rests on three cast legs shell mounts and applied shell feet. The cast handle is formed of a series of leaf-capped scrolls.

Inscription

Engraved on the underside of each, "From/ Mrs. Anna Winslow,/ To her Nephew/ Joshua Green/ 1802."

Marks

On underside, maker's mark RP (Grimwade 2405); lion passant; leopard's head crowned; date letter a.

Anna Winslow (1728-1816) by 1802, Joshua Green (1764-1847), by descent to Samuel Abbott Green (1830-1918), Bequest of Samuel A. Green to the MFA. (Accession Date: December 4, 1919)
