The low oval vessel, raised from sheet, has a broad spout drawn out on one side. There are several small dents on the lower edge.

Engraved onunderside, "HS / 1770".

Marks

Just below the rim at the back, leopard's head crowned; date letter N (1728-9); lion passant; maker's mark EC (Grimwade 546); (struck twice).

Provenance

By tradition, the property of Henry Sargent (1770-1845), by descent to his granddaughter, Mrs. Winthrop Sargent, 1917, Gift of Mrs. Horatio A. Lamb to the MFA in Memory of Mrs. Winthrop Sargent. (Accession Date: December 5, 1918)
