(Accession Date: January 1, 1876) NOTES: [1] See the letter from Frédéric Chappey, Curator, Musées de la Ville de L'Isle Adam, to the MFA (May 22, 2002; in MFA curatorial file) and the exhibition catalogue "Sur la route de Venise: Jules-Romain Joyant 1803-1854" (Paris and L'Isle Adam, 2003), p. 217, cat. no. 60. The painting was given in thanks for the help provided by the United States in the Franco-Prussian War.
