The shallow, flat circular gold box has a removable cover that fits over the base. A thin wire molding at the perimeter of the cover and base joins them to the vertical sides.

Inscription

Engraved on cover, the arms of Tighe with Bor in pretence and motto: "NON SIBI SED PATRIAE SUMMUM NEC METUAM DIEM NEC OPEM" for the Rt. Hon Richard Tighe (1678-1739) who married Barbara daughter and co-heiress of Christian Bor, Esq. of Drinagh co. Wexford. Engraved on underside, the arms of kilkenny with motto: INSGNIA ARMORUM CIVITATIS KILKENNIENSIS
