The flattened pear-shaped vessel is decorated overall with contorted grotesque faces. It is formed from two pieces of sheet, chased, and seamed along the narrow side. The globular stopper is chased with three bald heads and is attached to the body with a hinged bayonet closure.

Inscription

Engraved on underside, Design Office registration mark for August 9, 1880.

Marks

On underside, maker's mark LD (Culme 10713) (repeated on top of cover); lion passant (repeated on top of cover); leopard's head; date letter E(repeated on top of cover); sovereign's head.
