Inscription

ARMORIALS: engraved on the side, the arms and crest of Allen. INSCRIPTIONS: engraved on the front, OAW in monogram for Oliver (1744-1813) and Abigail Whipple (d. 1827) of Boston.

Marks

On side of foot, sovereign's head; date letter l; leopard's head crowned; lion passant (repeated on inside of cover); maker's mark IS (repeated on inside of cover).
