Candlestick

Start collecting

One of a pair of candlesticks. Cast with a molded, welled square base. A banded knop rises to a baluster shaped stem. The nozzle is plain and spoolshaped with two oval perforations.

Inscription

A coat of arms, probably those of Salving de Boissieu is engraved on a side of the base.

Marks

Maker's Mark: a crowned fluer-de-lis, two grains, an I(?) or a J(?)B, a chalice or cup. Warden's Mark: 1678-1680: a crowned K (Not illustrated, but discussed in Dennis, 242). Charge Mark: perhaps a charge mark, 1677-1680: an A surmounted by a fleur-de-lis and two fleurons (Dennis, 242) found with the warden's letter K during the tax farm of Martin Dufresnoy whose marks have not been preserved. Other: most of a crown, perhaps the discharge mark form 1677-1680, alsofound at the tax farm of Dufresnoy (Dennis, 242); LHF.
