Bust of Louis XV

White bust of Louis XV attached to base, head turning to left; pedestal incorporates cartouche and lion. Dated 1746. After Lemoyne.

Incised addorsed Cs and 1745 twice, on back of bust and back of pedestal.

Karrick Van Zandt Riggs (b. 1853), New York; by descent to his daughter, Pauline Riggs Noyes (b. 1886 - d. 1942), New York and Paris [see note 1]; February 7-8, 1947, Noyes estate sale, Parke Bernet, New York, lot 104, to Rosenberg and Stiebel, New York, for Forsyth Wickes (b. 1876 - d. 1964), Newport, RI; 1965, bequest of Forsyth Wickes to the MFA. (Accession Date: December 24, 1965) NOTES: [1] According to the title page of the 1947 auction catalogue, the contents of the sale were collected by Karrick Riggs and had been kept by Mrs. Noyes at her residence in Paris.
