Tureen with Lid

Start collecting

Oval bombe shaped tureen with molded knop in the form of kneeling putto spilling flowers from a cornucopia. Molded handles form a cluster of cauliflower and asparagus. Painted scenes of animals in reserves bordered by Rococo cartouches. Blue scale pattern (mosaik) ground and gilt edges.


Marks: underside of the tureen, crossed swords in underglaze blue; underside of stand, crossed swords in underglaze blue, impressed letter H.


By 1965, Antique Porcelain Company, New York; October 20, 1965, sold by the Antique Porcelain Company to William Appleton Coolidge (b. 1901 - d. 1992), Topsfield and Cambridge, MA; 1993, bequest of William Appleton Coolidge to the MFA. (Accession Date: January 27, 1993)
