Oval shaving-dish

Oval shaving-dish, part of a set with 1993.388a. Deep with a chased laurel rim. The interior is chased with matted strapwork enclosing matted Vitruvian scrolls and rosettes. The detachable chin-piece is similarily chased with a laurel rim.

Marks

Maker's Mark: a crown, two grains, CS, the dove of the Holy Ghost (Dennis, 320). Warden's Mark: 1784-1785: a crowned P with 84 (Dennis, 142). Charge Mark: for large work, 1783-1789: a crowned A (Dennis, 9). Other: Guarantee mark used after 1838 for old, small work: a boar's head (Tardy, p. 173). Illegible mark on the rim of the basin. on the rim of the basin.
