A cast shaped oval trencher slat with concave molded sides and an oval depression for salt.
Maker's Mark: a crowned fleur-de-lis, two grains, IBF, a star (?) or cinquefoil (?), The appraisal list form Christie's attributes it to Jean-Francois Bretou, who is neither in Nocq or Dennis, possibly it is a misspelling of Breton (nocq, p. 196), but that mark is not illustrated. Warden's mark: 1748-1749: a crowned H (Dennis, 197). Charge Mark: 1744-1750: a crowned A (Dennis, 130). Discharge Mark: for small work, 1744-1750: a salmon's head (Dennis, 130). Other: an unidentified head on the outer wall; Guarantee Mark used after 1838: a smallboar's head (Tardy, p. 173).
