Provenance

By 1884, Mrs. Peter Chardon Brooks, Boston, MA, USA [note 1]; 1884, Boston, MA, USA. Museum of Fine Arts (bequest of Brooks) (Accession date: January 1, 1884) NOTES: [1] she may be the wife of Peter Chardon Brooks (I), Nancy Gorham. However, since they were married 1792, that would make her a bit on the old side (!) to be dying in the early 1880's. Perhaps he had a second wife. Peter (II) seems to still be living in the 1890's; since at least one of the Mrs. Brooks paintings was inherited from Mr. Brooks, it seems impossible that she could be married to Peter (II).
