ARMORIALS: cast and engraved on a shield held by putti, the arms, crest, and motto of Hope, probably for John Alexander Hope, sixth Earl of Hopetoun (1831-1873). INSCRIPTIONS: stamped on underside of dish, 2959 HUNT & ROSKELL LATE STORR MORTIMER & HUNT


On side of dish, lion passant (repeated on finial, underside of stand, one wing of each angel, heater, and all original nuts); leopard's head (repeated on heater); date letter L (repeated on underside of stand and heater); maker's mark ISH (Culme 8358) (repeated on finial, underside of stand, one wing of each angel, and underside of heater).
