Circular dish

Shaped circular dish, with a shallow center depression and a molded rim. A cr est is engraved on the rim. Christie's says that it is a German coat of arms with a princely coronet, similar to that on 1993.510.1-29, and 1993.512.1-2.


Maker's Mark: a G, an indecipherable mark. The plate is similar in design to 1993.510.1-29, and 1993.512.1-2, both of which are by Germain, Christie's also says that it is by Germain (Dennis, 162). Warden's Mark: 1761-1762: a crowned X (Dennis, 75). Charge Mark: 1756-1762: a crowned A, incomplete (Dennis, 150).Other: Countermark used after 1838: parts of insects (Rosenberg 5929); a smal l rectangle.
