Engage your students with the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, to illustrate themes and concepts in any discipline.

"Connecting the Contemporary"

While exploring the contemporary wing with the children, stop at a select few works and discuss with participants from where they think the artists got their inspiration. Ask participants: if they were to create this piece, how would they interpret the same idea (subject?). Bring up other artists from different wings (for example, the American Wing) to give examples of artists without whom these contemporary works and artists would not exist. Connecting art in the museum to their daily lives, by pointing out art in popular culture and in their everyday activities. (Showing where the artist received his or her inspiration)
