What does it mean to make a work of art for a particular place? How can and does art interact with the physical space it occupies? How do visitors interact with site-specific art?

MFA Connections:

Possible MFA artists/exhibitions include: MFA floral arrangements, the American Wing gardens, Tara Donovan, Anne Lindberg, Liliana Porter

Art-making activity:

Creating plans for our own MFA intervention art!

Pre-tour group activity:

Work with educators on Homeschool contribution to the art installation of artist, Susan Isra

Follow-up activity:

Visit the deCordova Museum & Sculpture Park in Lincoln, MA! How do the outdoor sculptures differ from the ones at the museum? Are there any sculptures that feel out of place on the grounds? Any that feel particularly made for that place? Write a response to your visit in our virtual classroom!
