How can an artist possibly show the power and strength of great rulers? Join us as we explore the symbols behind portraits of kings, queens, pharoahs, gods, and the very well-off.

MFA Connections:

Possible MFA artists/exhibitions include: Egyptian galleries, John Singleton Copley, Benin rulers collection

Art-making activity:

Make your own crown or diadem

Pre-tour group activity:

Tableaux Vivant

Follow-up activity:

Create photographic or drawn portraits of yourself in a position of power. Think about the angle of the portrait, point of view, your pose, clothes, background. Share with us in the virtual classroom.
