CLOTH DESIGN (12/5 a.m. & 12/19 p.m.)

Class Topic:

Cloth Design

Goals:

(Overview & big concepts)

Not all fabric design is woven- we often wear and see clothes that are printed with repeatable designs, tessellations, words, or pictures of famous people. Join us as we meet with Textiles consultant, Jennifer Swope in the Textiles conservation department. We will be looking at cottons printed from all over the world!

MFA Connections:

Textiles Collection, Screen Prints, Minimalist Art, Annika Rimala

Art-making activity:

Handmade stamped textile design

Pre-tour group activity:

Shape tesselations

Follow-up activity:

Take a look at some of your own clothes and fabrics around the home. Can you tell which process was used to create the patterning? Are the patterns woven? Printed? Decals? Feel free to post your favorites in the virtual classroom!
